Scholar Tasks Women on Exemplary Parenthood

A professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Ibadan, Habeebah Uthman-Oladosu, has urged women to model the values they wish to see in their children, warning that moral uprightness in the next generation begins at home.

Professor Uthman-Oladosu gave the charge while delivering a lecture at the annual Ramadan lecture of the Conference of All Muslim Organisations of Nigeria (CAMON), held at the Honourable Justice Bolanle Babalakin Hall of the Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN) in Ibadan.

Speaking on the theme, “Children Upbringing: The Role of Women,” the Islamic scholar argued that a woman’s daily conduct forms the earliest and most lasting classroom a child ever enters.

Also speaking at the event, the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Bashorun Akobo Ojurin Estate Muslim Community, Habibullah Buhari, linked proper Islamic upbringing directly to the health of society.

Delivering his address on the topic “Nurturing Children and Building an Islamic Society,” he described sound religious formation in childhood as the bedrock of a morally stable community.

The Chairman on the occasion, Prof. Rasheed Aderinoye, commended CAMON for its consistency in using the annual lecture to advance moral and religious values among Muslims.

CAMON Chairman, Alhaji Jimoh Sulaimon said the lecture series was designed to draw Muslim associations together around a common purpose.

He also acknowledged the Muslim Association of Nigeria for its leadership and sustained support for the programme.
