Muslim Female Student Secures Seven US Universities’ Doctorate Scholarships

A Muslim female Higher National Diploma graduate of the Ilaro Polytechnic, Ogun State, Islamiyat Ojelade, is currently trending on social media for bagging scholarship offers from seven different universities in the United States of America(USA) for her doctorate Degree.

Miss Ojelade, rubbishes Nigeria’s BSc-HND dichotomy, settles for Florida State University, Ph.D Scholarship in an uncommon feat for HND holders who haven’t gone through a master’s course, names seven top US Varsities that offered her fully funded Ph.D Scholarships. Miss Ojelade had emerged the overall Best Graduating Student at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro with an outstanding CGPA of 3.89 on a scale of 4.0,

A post she made on LinkedIn says she has accepted one of the offers and is preparing to begin her studies at the Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, USA.
An unprecedented feat for HND holders Ordinarily, it would be thought that Islamiyat must have to go through a master’s, pre-masters of conversion course before climbing the academic ladder, especially with the HND/Degree dichotomy in Nigeria.

But amazingly the scholarships are for PhD, straight from HND. Her story has gathered a lot of attention on LinkedIn where she shared it.

Considering the dichotomy between HND and BSc in Nigeria, I was scared and confused on what next to do after my undergraduate studies.

“I am so elated to inform you all that I will be starting my PhD program in Chemistry at the Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, USA this Fall, having received full scholarships from 7 universities in the United States of America with my Higher National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry Major).”

The schools she got offers from are Florida State University, University of Massachusetts Armherst, University of Kansas, University of Kentucky, University of North Texas, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Marquette University.

Meanwhile Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Tolu Odebiyi has commended the Yewa North born Islamiyat Ojelade over her remarkable exploit in securing seven PhD offers in top Universities in the United States of America.

In an official message to celebrate her, the foundation writes to celebrate Miss Ojelade on her remarkable feat and commend her for her unwavering passion for academic, research and leadership. Senator Tolu Odebiyi further said, “The magnificent stride you have recorded has clearly distinguished you as an exceptional scholar. We celebrate your outstanding achievement”.
