Oladipo Urges Nigeria to Embrace AI in Broadcasting

Nigeria should not lag behind in every aspect of development in Radio Broadcasting evolving across the world in order to ensure prompt exploitation of opportunities made available in the industry globally.

A veteran broadcast – journalist, Deacon Femi Oladipo made the remark during a monitored television interactive session on this year’s International Radio Day.

He noted that broadcasting had witnessed various developments since its invention in 1895 by an Italian, Guelimo Marconi, when facilities were operated manually.

Deacon Oladipo said the industry advanced from manual to technological operation of its facilities to digital which was in vogue for many decades.

The veteran Journalist pointed out that by designing the theme for this year as “Artificial Intelligence; A Tool and Not a Voice, Nigeria should begin to align with the Thought of United Nations in that regard so as to key into opportunities that may subsequently abound in training personnel to meet up with international standards.

He noted that United Nations had explained that Artificial Intelligence, under the new advancement shall be handling technical and routine tasks while the personnel would focus on curation, story telling and Community building.

Deacon ‘Femi Oladipo a former General Manager in two Stations on the stable of Radio Nigeria underscored the significance of training, particularly among private Radio stations who are currently the most functional operators in the broadcasting industry.

The veteran broadcast journalist lamented that the existence of a very wide gap in the professional, ethical and qualitative standard in the practice due to poor attention to quality which was the most important consideration in the establishment and operations of Radio stations in the past.

Deacon Oladipo pleaded with proprietors, Managers and every operator in broadcasting industry to remember that anything heard on air was usually believed to be the most authentic by the public, hence, they must avoid trivializing with every information, message and language that would be transmitted from their stations from time to time.
