Parents Urged to Encourage Children in Sports

Parents have been advised to encourage and support their children in sporting activities.

An elder stateman, Chief Ayodele Adeyemo gave the advice at the annual Inter House Sports Competition of Adogbe L.A Primary School, Ede, Osun State.

Chief Adeyemo who was also honoured with the endorsement of a House in his name, averred that sporting activities promote both physical and mental developments.

He said children who show keen interest in Sports have innate spirit of a winner who believes that only competition and hard work can lead to victory.

While encouraging children in sporting activities, they should also be properly monitored by their teachers, coaches and most importantly by parents.

Chief Adeyemo further advised that parents must be watchful and nurture their Sports loving children to depend only on the natural energy and instinct as against performance enhancing materials, which invariably could destroy their lovely visions of becoming reputable stars.

In a goodwill message, Olori Titilayo Lawal, the wife of the Timi of Edeland, who was also honoured with a House, urged parents to give their children adequate attention as they are potential future leaders.

Olori Lawal recalled with enthusiasm that she was a sport lover with interest in track events, while she was in school many decades ago.

She further said that Sports have now transformed from entertainment into a world wide acclaimed profession with many glories.

While welcoming the guests and parents, the Head Mistress of the school, Mrs Theresa Agbeke Oyejide said the annual Inter House Sports was resuscitated in the school by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, as a way of encouraging teenagers in positive activities that will propel their visions.

She appreciated House Owners and the school’s staff for their support and encouragement towards the successful holding of the Inter House Sports Competition.

In the keenly contested competition, Ayodele Adeyemo House, (Green), emerged as the overall winners while Olori Titilayo Lawal House came second with Aare Emiloju and Mufutau Oluwadare Houses placed third and fourth positions.

The Father of the Day, Oba Wakeel Olokosun and Mother of the Day, Yeye Olufunmilayo Adeyemo presented trophies to the winners.
