A 24-year-old indigene of Ede, Osun State, Oluwadamilola Oguntola, has successfully completed 51 hours, 35 minutes, and 56 seconds in her attempt to set a new Guinness World Records title for the longest hair braiding marathon.
Oguntola initially completed the official 48-hour longest hair braiding marathon attempt, which started at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and was scheduled to end at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
However, she continued braiding beyond the required time, extending her performance by an additional 3 hours, 35 minutes, and 56 seconds.
Speaking on her motivation for taking on the challenge, Oguntola said she was determined to achieve something historic.
“I am attempting this record because I want to do what no one has done before in Osun, Nigeria, and the world at large.”
According to the young hairstylist, her passion for beauty and confidence drives her dedication to the craft.
“I braid people’s hair to make them feel more beautiful and bold” she said.
The 400-level Mass Communication student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, revealed that she has been practicing hair braiding for more than eight years.
While explaining how she discovered her talent, Oguntola said her journey into hair braiding began at a very young age.
“I started braiding when I was young, even before I went to formally learn the skill.”
Oguntola, who also engages in freelance work and network marketing, noted that she remains committed to her passion for hair braiding and ensures that other activities do not disrupt her focus on the profession.
