Tiamiyu Resigns After Five Years as Pensioners FM GM

The immediate past General Manager of Pensioners’ 106.7 FM, Ibadan, Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu, has formally announced his departure from the labour union-owned radio station after serving for nearly seven years, including five years as General Manager.

In a farewell message shared on his Facebook page, Dr. Tiamiyu described his exit as an emotional moment, saying it was difficult to bid farewell to an organisation that had shaped his career and given him the opportunity to serve.

According to him, his tenure, which began on August 20, 2021, and officially ended in June 2026, was more than an administrative appointment but “a calling” dedicated to transforming broadcasting while amplifying the voices of pensioners and other members of the public.

Reflecting on his stewardship, the former General Manager said the station recorded significant milestones through the collective efforts of the board, management and staff.

He stated that Pensioners’ FM introduced innovative listener-focused programmes that redefined its broadcasting approach, strengthened advocacy for the welfare of pensioners and the wider public, and expanded its digital presence beyond Oyo State and Nigeria to reach audiences across the world.

Dr. Tiamiyu also credited the station’s workforce for building what he described as a professional and purpose-driven team committed to excellence in broadcasting.

“These were not my achievements. They were ours,” he wrote, attributing the successes recorded during his tenure to teamwork, dedication and divine grace.

He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for what he described as His mercy and guidance throughout his years of service.

The former General Manager thanked the station’s Board of Directors, led by veteran broadcaster and administrator, Chief Adebisi Adesola, for their confidence, guidance and unwavering support.

He also acknowledged the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Council, Pastor James Osuntade, and the Board Secretary, Comrade Banji Koleoso, for their commitment to the growth of the station.

Dr. Tiamiyu reserved special appreciation for the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Pensioners’ 106.7 FM, Dr. Olusegun Abatan, whom he described as the visionary behind the establishment of the station and several landmark initiatives of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners.

According to him, the opportunity to serve first as a pioneer staff member and later as General Manager profoundly shaped his professional career.

He equally thanked members of the station’s management team and staff for their commitment, professionalism and shared vision, saying their collective efforts made the station’s achievements possible.

Among those he singled out for recognition was Principal Editor, New Media of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Comrade Olaolu Fawole, whom he described as a colleague who became family through unwavering friendship and support.

Dr. Tiamiyu also expressed appreciation to media professionals across the country for their mentorship, members of the Media Transformative Group (MTG) for believing in his vision, clients and listeners for their loyalty, as well as his family for their prayers, patience and sacrifices throughout his career.

He paid special tribute to his wife, Hajia Morufat Motunrayo, and their children, saying their love, understanding and support sustained him during the demands of the job.

The former General Manager also appreciated the Board for celebrating what he described as “not an ending, but a triumphant transition” into another phase of his career.

While he did not disclose his next destination, Dr. Tiamiyu hinted that an announcement on his future plans would be made soon.

“The future is bright. What next? Where next? The wait will not be long,” he concluded.

Pensioners’ 106.7 FM, based in Onireke, Ibadan, is widely regarded as the world’s first labour union-owned radio station and is operated by the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners.
