Democracy Day: OYSIEC Chairman Urges Patience, Predicts Positive Turnaround

The Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission OYSIEC, Ààre Isiaka Olagunju has expressed hope that Nigeria would overcome the challenges slowing down her progress.

Ààre Olagunju who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, gave the advice while speaking in a message congratulating Nigerians on the 2024 Democracy Day in Ibadan the Oyo State capital.

The OYSIEC boss appealed to Nigerians to be patient assuring the citizens that though president Bola Tinubu’s policies might be tough in the present circumstance but would soon yield positive results for the well-being of the people on whose mandate he became the nation’s helmsman.

Reflecting on democracy day, Ààre Olagunju explained that nothing can be compared to freedom that allows a democratic civil rule . He stressed that the Nation has witnessed tremendous transformations in the last 25 years of democracy.

He, however, enjoined nigerians that there cannot be challenges in any society when the people support and cooperate with the leaders.

On the journey so far, Ààre Olagunju said Nigerians should remember and honour the sacrifices of the late Chief MKO Abiola, GCFR, whose unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and equity gave room for the freedom every Nigerian is enjoying now.

According to the OYSIEC chairman, “the sacrifice made by MKO Abiola who laid his life for our freedom is a beacon of hope and a reminder of the price paid for the current democratic gains”

On democratic development in Oyo State , Ààre Olagunju commended Governor Seyi Makinde for putting in place solid pathway towards achieving a fair,free and credible Local Government Elections in the state.

The OYSIEC chairman, pointed out that Oyo State is reaping from the giant developmental strides of Governor Makinde especially the resolve to ensure democracy at the Local Government level.

” On behalf of OYSIEC, I commend Governor Makinde for allowing the entrenchment of democracy at the grassroot through the conduct of two successive Local Government Elections in the state.”
