Onikoyi Stool, My Position of Authenticity – Prince Fasasi Hannafi

It is now becoming a norm for the traditional stool to enmeshed in succession crisis. While kingmakers often do their best to put forward a choice candidate for position of Obaship, it has always been greeted negatively by political authority of the state.

This ugly trend is now becoming a tradition and undermining sanctity of traditional authority in our society. While this trend continues, Orire community has it fair share as related by Alhaji Shehu Fasasi Hannafi

While it is been the past two years since 2022 to be specific after the demise of the late Oba Abdulyekeen, the late Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ile Kingdom, that the stool has been vacant. This informed the kingmakers’ decision to meet, screen and performed their traditional responsibility in parading the interested candidates for the tool.

This impressive step informed the selection of a Professor, Prince Oladunni Atoyebi Jimoh Saka as the next Onikoyi, the decision that is binding on all Ikoyi sons and daughters, both at home and diaspora.

As a bonafide Ikoyi-Ile son of Adegun Royal Family, I am fully in support of the decision of kingmakers that bind 90% of all the Ikoyi’s community together about the decision of the Kingmakers.

To this end, Your Excellency, I and indeed the well-meaning Ikoyi-Ile children, are imploring your good offices to act in time with the tradition and decision of the king makers, as some unscrupulous individuals may want to take the advantage of any delay to exhibit mischief, which could lead to unnecessary breakdown of law and peaceful co-existence of our people and the town. It should be of note, that any violation of, upturning the spiritual and traditional responsibility of the Kingmakers as the case may be, may lead to chaotic reaction from the law abiding citizens of Ikoyi-Ile town, and indeed the entire community. I, and the entire children of Ikoyi-Ile maintain their belief in your Excellency’s consistence and the spirit of justice and fair hearing. We are thus looking for your continued fairness on the stool of the kingship of Ikoyi-Ile (Onikoyi) as decided and submitted by the Kingmakers of Ikoyi-Ile royalship.

“I equally want to add sir, that the candidate, Prince Oladunni Atoyebi Jimoh Saka, picked by the traditional kingmakers, is a bonafide Ikoyi-Ile son, whose indigenization is never in doubt.

As a peace-loving and God fearing Governor of Oyo State, we are of the opinion that the rightful decision of the kingmakers will be considered sacrosanct.
