Nigerian youths have been counseled on the relevance of engaging in sporting activities for both physical and psychological developments.
Any negligence of physical exercise especially in the teen age could lead to poor health with untold consequences in the adult age.
This observation was made by a media expert, Chief Ayodele Adeyemo while speaking at the Annual Inter athletics Competition of Adventist Grammar School Ede, Osun State.
Adeyemo who is the Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school opined that participants should take Inter athletics competitions as an avenue to develop both their psyche and physique rather than involving in gangsterism or other unimaginable antisocial engagements.
He urged youths to utilize their time on productive and mind building ventures.
Chief Adeyemo also used the occasion to call on Osun State government to partner with stakeholders on youth matters in designing and embarking youth programs that can put a stop to unsalutary behaviour of street begging by the youths (popularly dubbed Area Boys), who mindlessly constitute nuisance to their immediate environment and the public at large.
In his welcome address, the Coordinating Principal of the school, Elder E. O. Jegede disclosed that the Annual InterHouse Athletics Competition are held under the laws of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and International School Sports Federation.
He enumerated the benefits and importance of sporting activities to the competitors which include strengthening of muscles, bones, lungs and heart all of which usually lead to improved balance, coordination, flexibility and improved academic performance”.
Jegede gave kudos to the Parents Forum under the leadership of its Chairman, Chief Ayodele Adeyemo and his Executive for giving maximum support to the school’s management at all times.
He also appreciated Old Students Association (AGSEOSA) of the school under the leadership of amiable Dr Akodu, for their unalloyed support and assistance to the students.
In the well contested competitions, Pink House came first as the overall winners while Invitation relay competition was won by Ede High School in the Female category with Baptist High School emerging as the best in the Male category.
