Adeleke Commends NULGE’s Resumption of Duties

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has commended the State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for its decision to resume duties on Monday, January 5, 2025, describing the move as patriotic and people-oriented.

The governor made this known in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.

He described the development as a positive step for grassroots governance and expressed optimism that the resumption of work would reinvigorate service delivery and social interventions at the local government level.

Governor Adeleke noted that local governance remains the most effective means of reaching residents across the state, adding that the decision by labour leaders demonstrated sensitivity to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

He also praised the Nigeria Police Force for enforcing law and order at various local government council secretariats, describing the action as timely and responsible.

“While commending the leadership of NULGE, I must also appreciate the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11, and the Osun State Commissioner of Police for their commitment to providing security for the lawful resumption of activities at the council secretariats,” the governor said.

“The police command has acted responsibly to prevent anarchy. We hope the command will sustain its resolve to enforce its directive against any attempt to disrupt workers’ resumption of duty,” he added.

Governor Adeleke reiterated that his administration was not opposed to local government autonomy, noting that the presidential decision on the matter was aimed at devolving governance to the grassroots.

However, he stressed that the rule of law and due process must be upheld at all times.

“The constitution and existing laws guiding the local government system must be respected in financial, administrative and other matters. The duly elected leadership of local governments should not be denied their legitimate rights to exercise their mandate,” he said.
