Let’s sustain democracy- Agbaje urges Nigerians

A Stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State, Mr. Akeem Agbaje has called on Nigerians to continue to work towards sustaining the democratic journey of the country.

The APC chieftain who spoke in a statement through his media unit and made available to newsmen in Ibadan in commemoration of this year’s democracy day emphasized the importance of civil rule in ensuring human and societal development.

While acknowledging the various roles played by different Pro-democracy activists in the struggle to enthrone democratic rule, Mr. Agbaje said the task of sustaining and deepening civil rule should be a task.

He reflected on the locust days of military governance when there were no regards, freedom and respect for human rights, with an analysis of the level of criticisms that have been witnessed in the 25 years of return to democracy in the country.

The former Governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress in Oyo State stressed that so far, the developmental strides during the democracy dispensation have been encouraged for greater Nigeria.

According to the legal icon and politician, “though we might have not been where we ought to be, there is still hope for us as a people. When we reflect on the periods of military regimes, we would agree that we are still making progress.”We should all team up for the task of building stabilising our nation and support those in positions of authority to achieve the needed reforms to build a better Nigeria.”

Mr. Agbaje however commended former President Buhari for recognising the late MKO Abiola as the winner of the June 12,1999 presidential election adjudged to be the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Mr. Agbaje who also acknowledged the various progressive policies being put in place by President Tinubu, enjoined Nigerians to support the current administration’s efforts towards building a stable economy for a new Nigeria.
