FG Urged to Assent NSIP Act Amendment Bill

Federal Government has been urged to assent to the amended bill establishing the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) to achieve its primary objective.

A former Senior Special Adviser to former Osun State Governors, Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola on Social Intervention/ State Focal Person on National Social Investment Programmes Honourable Lukman Bello, made this call while delivering a key note address at an event in Abuja.

Speaking on the theme; ” Sub – National Dynamics of Implementing and Monitoring Social Investment Programmes in Nigeria”, Honourable Bello noted that placing the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) under the presidency would reduce bureaucracy in administration.

He also emphasized the need for a task force dedicated to monitoring social investments, ensuring that every action benefits citizens at the grassroots level.

To eliminate sharp practices in social investments, Honourable Bello advocated financial remuneration for Implementation Monitors (IMs).

According to him, the bill to amend the NSIP Agency Act has already passed its second reading in the Senate.

Honourable Bello emphasised that the proposed amendment seeks to transfer the NSIP agency from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs back to the Presidency, ensuring direct supervision by President Bola Tinubu .

The NSIP was created in 2016 by former President Muhammadu Buhari to address socio-economic inequalities and alleviate poverty among vulnerable Nigerians.
