The Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan has denied allegations aired on an Ibadan based radio station, Agidigbo 88.7 FM, in which a woman, Kate Odjegba, falsely accused one of its priests of impregnating her.
Odjegba had granted the interview on May 2, 2025, alleging repeated sexual encounters with the priest.
The church described the claims as malicious lies and vowed legal action against the radio station for irresponsible reporting.
In a statement on Wednesday by Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Omolade, Chancellor of Ibadan Archdiocese, revealed that medical tests conducted during a May 9, 2025 meeting with Agidigbo FM’s management at the station’s designated health facility, confirmed Odjegba was never pregnant.
The Archdiocese also exposed her history of debunked allegations and mental health struggles, while dismissing purported evidence as fabricated.
The investigations showed their only contact involved her seeking financial aid, with witnesses and police records corroborating the priest’s innocence.
“The station ignored basic journalistic ethics by broadcasting unverified, defamatory content.”We will pursue legal redress to repair the harm done”, the statement added.
The Archdiocese, while quoting the scripture: ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour” (Exodus 20:16), urged the public to reject sensationalism.
