Ede Descendants Union Celebrates Otunba Adekunle Aremu at 66

The Ede Descendants Union has congratulated veteran broadcaster and cultural ambassador, Otunba Adekunle Aremu, popularly known as Rajesh, on the occasion of his 66th birthday, describing him as a pride of Ede and a worthy ambassador of the Yoruba race.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement jointly signed by the National President of the Union, Prof. Ademola Olaitan, the National Secretary, Dr. Lawal Nurein and the National Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Teniola Oyebanji.

The Union said Otunba Aremu’s life and career reflect dedication, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the promotion of culture, unity, and excellence in broadcasting.

It noted that he has devoted over four decades to radio and television broadcasting, building a legacy that continues to inspire younger generations across Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

Otunba Aremu’s broadcasting career began with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Radio Plateau in Jos, Plateau State, where he served between 1985 and 1989.

In 1989, he moved to the Republic of Benin to join the National Television of Benin (ORTB), where he further distinguished himself as a consummate professional and cultural ambassador.

He later made history as the pioneer Yoruba presenter on Radio CAPP FM, a role he has performed since 1998, using the platform to promote the Yoruba language, values, and identity beyond Nigeria’s borders.

The statement also highlighted his leadership role in the media sector, noting that he has served as President of Radio and Television Presenters since 1993, a position he continues to hold.

Beyond broadcasting, the Union praised his commitment to community development, particularly his role as General Coordinator of the Ede Community in Diaspora, Benin Republic, which he has held since 1993, fostering unity among Ede sons and daughters abroad and strengthening ties with their ancestral home.

Otunba Aremu was also commended for his service as President of the 1984 set of Ede Muslim Grammar School, whose alumni include notable personalities such as Ambassador Adejare Bello and daughter of President Bola Tinubu, Folasade Tinubu, a recipient of the Ede 2024 Merit Award, as well as for being a member of the Ede Senior Citizens Award group.

A respected title holder, Otunba Onikoyi and Otunba Atayese of the Yorubas in Benin, he hails from Olufimo Compound, Oloba, Atapara Ward, Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State.

As he marks his 66th birthday, the Ede Descendants Union prayed for God’s continued blessings, good health, long life, and greater accomplishments for the veteran broadcaster in the years ahead.
