FRSC to Prosecute TikTok Influencer Peller Over Reckless Driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced plans to prosecute popular TikTok content creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a road crash linked to distracted driving while live streaming.

The decision comes after a video circulated on social media showing the influencer filming himself while driving, an act the FRSC said directly contravenes traffic regulations and endangers public safety.

Reacting to the incident, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the act as reckless and unacceptable, stressing that public roads are not platforms for content creation.

He warned that engaging in live streaming or other distracting activities behind the wheel poses serious risks to drivers, passengers, and other road users.

In a statement issued by the corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed directed the Lagos State Sector Command to commence prosecution against the influencer for offences bordering on distracted driving, use of a mobile phone while driving, and reckless driving.

The FRSC boss expressed concern over the growing trend of social media influencers prioritising online engagement over safety, noting that such behaviour undermines years of public education on road safety.

He also urged entertainment bodies and content creator communities to promote responsible conduct among their members, emphasising that fame does not place anyone above the law.

Mohammed reiterated the commitment of the FRSC to enforce traffic regulations without fear or favour, warning that no social media trend is worth risking human lives.
